On August 25, 2023, DOI’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) published its record of decision for oil and gas Lease Sale 261 for the Gulf of Mexico’s outer continental shelf. IRA section 50264 required that BOEM hold Lease Sale 261, along with two other oil and gas lease sales.
