DOI’s Fish and Wildlife Service Announces $62.5 Million Investment for Endangered Species Recovery Planning

On May 19, 2023, DOI, through the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), announced a $62.5 million investment to support endangered species recovery planning. This effort will focus on recovery efforts for more than 300 species currently listed in the Endangered Species Act. Section 60301 of the IRA appropriates $125 million to FWS for the development and implementation of recovery plans for endangered species’ survival and conservation.

Through this investment, FWS will hire additional biologists to facilitate implementation actions necessary to recover species and remove them from the Endangered Species list. Initial efforts will focus on 32 threatened and endangered species.
