On May 19, 2023, EPA amended the Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program (EJ TCGM)’s 2023 Request for Applications in four separate ways. First, the deadline was extended to June 30, 2023, and the new Period of Performance start date was extended to February 1, 2024. Second, new guidance was included for National Applicants related to the development of a national evaluation and tracking system that helps organize program data nationwide. Third, EPA made technical assistance resources available to assist grantmakers and subgrantees, including subgrantee internal controls, evaluation, data collection needs, and support on compliance matters. Lastly, two new additions to the eligible subrecipient list were added (local governments and institutions of higher education) and a second EJ TCGM webinar was scheduled for May 30, 2023 from 2:00-4:00PM ET.
The EJ TCGM Program is a competition in which multiple grantmakers are selected on a national basis in an effort to reduce community barriers and increase efficiency in the federal grant application process. IRA section 60201 created the Environmental and Climate Justice block grant program in section 138 of the Clean Air Act and provided EPA with $2.8 billion in grant funding.
