On March 30, 2023, EPA announced the award of climate planning grants of $3 million each to New York and Wisconsin from the IRA section 60114 Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program (CPRG). The CPRG program supports states, territories, Tribes, municipalities, and air agencies in the creation of comprehensive and innovative pollution reduction strategies that maximize benefits, especially for low-income and disadvantaged communities.
New York will use funds to augment climate planning in collaboration with municipalities, and to conduct meaningful engagement with communities. It will also build on its State Climate Act of 2019, one of the most ambitious climate laws in the nation.
Wisconsin’s funds will be used to update and expand the state’s existing climate action plan and conduct meaningful engagement with low-income and disadvantaged communities. As recipients of the planning grants worth $3 million, New York and Wisconsin are each eligible to apply for an implementation grant, also authorized by the IRA, which will be subject to a competitive national grant competition later this year.
