On November 30, 2023, NOAA announced $7.2 million in funding to partners and collaborators to improve climate projections through the initiative, “Climate Futures: Projections for Societally-Relevant Problems.” Thirteen projects will be funded to improve projections of tropical cyclones, heat extremes, precipitation and global weather and climate drivers like El Nino. IRA section 40004 appropriates $150 million to NOAA “to accelerate advances and improvements in research, observation systems, modeling, forecasting, assessments, and public dissemination of information as it pertains to ocean and atmospheric processes that relate to weather, coasts, oceans, and climate.”
