DOE and EPA Announce $850 Million to Reduce Methane Pollution from the Oil and Gas Sector

On December 20, 2024, DOE and EPA announced $850 million in funding for 43 projects to “reduce, monitor, measure, and quantify methane emissions from the oil and gas sector.” Three projects will help small oil and gas operators reduce emissions, 31 projects will “accelerate the deployment of early-commercial technology solutions to reduce methane emissions,” four projects will improve data collection capabilities and five projects will “enhance the detection and measurement of methane emissions from oil and gas operations at regional scale.”

This grant is funded by IRA section 60113, which created the Methane Emissions Reduction Program under section 136 of the Clean Air Act.
