On November 17, 2023, DOE announced $169 million in funding for nine projects to advance electric heat pump manufacturing at fifteen locations across the United States. Compared to boilers, heat pumps emit 50% less greenhouse gases. The projects are projected to create 1,700 jobs and further the Biden administration’s Justice40 initiative, allocating 40% of climate investments to disadvantaged communities.
These projects are funded by IRA section 30001, appropriating $500 million to DOE to carry out the Defense Production Act of 1950 for clean energy technologies. Funds are available until September 30, 2024.
