DOE Announces HALEU Nuclear Fuel Supply Chain Innovation Technology Funding Opportunity with March 12, 2025 Deadline

On December 18, 2024, DOE announced $80 million in grant opportunities related to high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU). DOE is seeking applicants “to address technological advancement across the front-end nuclear fuel cycle to ensure the development of a safe, sustainable and efficient supply chain of enriched uranium, enhancing current processes, and addressing technology gaps.” Individual grants will be up to $40 million. Applications are due by March 12, 2025. Additional application information is available here.

The grant is funded by IRA section 50173, which appropriated $700 million to DOE to increase the availability of high-assay low-enriched uranium for nuclear energy development.
