DOE Announces Nearly $2 Billion to Support American Auto Workers, Convert Facilities for Electric Vehicles

On July 11th, 2024, the Department of Energy announced that it was investing $1.7 billion to support the conversion of eleven automobile manufacturing and assembly sites to produce hybrid and electric vehicles and components. This funding was made available through IRA section 50143, which established the Domestic Manufacturing Auto Conversion Grant program. These sites are located across eight states: Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia.
