On January 16, 2025, DOE and DOI released the Action Plan for Offshore Wind Transmission Development in the US West Coast Region, offering recommendations for offshore wind’s grid integration. To do so requires further investment in (and community collaboration over) the “nascent industry” of floating technology. The report calls for technology standardization to “support…domestic supply chain[s].”
Offshore wind transmission research is funded by IRA section 50153, appropriating $100 million to DOE for offshore wind planning and analysis. Funds will remain until September 30, 2031.
