On August 15, 2024, DOE posted a notice of a grant opportunity to support conversion projects to produce electric vehicles. The process will be non-competitive and grants are available to eligible states, territories, or the District of Columbia to make awards to small and medium manufacturers. Award recipients will convert commercial-scale assembly or component manufacturing facilities from the production of internal combustion vehicles to produce electric vehicles. These grants are authorized by IRA section 50143, which appropriated funds to DOE to provide grants for domestic production of efficient hybrid, plug-in electric hybrid, plug-in electric drive, and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.
