Type: Rollback of IRA
On May 15, 2025, DOE announced a secretarial memorandum directing the agency to review on a case-by-case basis 179 financial assistance awards worth a total of $15 billion. The agency has begun requesting information from awardees to evaluate their programs. The pupose of the review is “to identity waste of taxpayer dollars, protect America’s national security and advance President Trump’s commitment to unleash affordable, reliable and secure energy for the American people.”
According to news reports, many of the awards that have been targeted for review were awarded with funds appropriated by the IRA and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
