On April 2, 2024, DOI announced $320 million to assist Tribes in planning and construction of domestic water infrastructure. Domestic water projects may be funded for up to 100 percent of the cost of planning, design or construction, but there is a funding limit of up to $3 million for planning, $5 million for design, and $50 million for construction. This funding opportunity is open to Tribes in the 17 western U.S. states served by the Bureau of Reclamation. Phase one of the funding in fiscal year 2024 will be for planning, design or construction, and phase two in fiscal years 2027 and 2028 will be for construction. The Reclamation’s Native American Affairs Office will be accepting proposals until August 4, 2024. IRA section 50231 provides $550 million to DOI to fund the construction of drinking water access projects in communities that lack reliable access to water supplies.
