DOI Announces $50 Million in Funding for Great Salt Lake Water Supply Resiliency

On December 2, 2024, DOI announced that the Bureau of Reclamation is providing $50 million in funding for the Great Salt Lake Basin to ensure resilience in the water supply. The funding will be used to “enhance and expand [] ongoing agricultural optimization efforts” and will “allow[] the state to implement the program to lease water and then deliver conserved water to the Great Salt Lake” to reduce water loss in the Basin.

The funding is provided by IRA section 50233, which appropriated money for the Commissioner of Reclamation to provide grants and other funding for drought mitigation activities.
