Type: Implementation of IRA
On May 16, 2024, DOI announced $520 million to increase drought resilience and improve water delivery systems. The funding will support 57 projects across all six regions served by the Bureau of Reclamation. New Mexico, where the announcement was made, is receiving $14.7 million for aging infrastructure. Over $10 million will go towards the Rio Grande channel realignment project to improve water conveyance, critical habitat, and sedimentation control. Section 50233 of the IRA appropriates to the DOI, through the Commissioner of Reclamation, $4 billion for grants and other funding for public entities and Indian tribes to conduct specific drought mitigation activities.
