Date: 03/05/2024
Type: Implementation of IRA

On March 5, 2024, DOI announced $72 million of IRA funds for the electrification of homes in Tribal communities through the Office of Indian Affairs’ Tribal Electrification Program. The first round of funding will provide assistance to 21 Tribes for connecting homes to clean transmission and distribution systems, obtaining zero-emission electricity for unelectrified Tribal homes, transitioning electrified homes to zero-emissions energy systems, and prepping homes for the installation of zero-emissions energy systems. Another goal of the program is to support Tribal clean energy workforce development opportunities. Section 80003 of the IRA appropriated $145.5 million to the Director of the BIA to advance the use of zero-emissions energy systems in Tribal homes, as well as an additional $4.5 million for administrative costs associated with the program.
