DOI Announces $850 Million in Funding for Drought Resilience

On December 3, 2024, DOI announced that it is providing $850 million to 77 projects across 11 states for drought resilience activities around major river basins. $118.3 million of the funding will go towards projects in the Colorado River Basin. The projects will focus on “improv[ing] water conveyance and storage, increas[ing] safety, improv[ing] hydropower generation, and provid[ing] water treatment.”

The projects are funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and IRA section 50233, which appropriated funding to DOI to fund public entities and Indian tribes to conduct specific drought mitigation activities.
