EPA and DOE Release Notice of Intent to Fund Oil and Gas Methane Emissions Reduction Projects

Date: 02/09/2024
Type: Implementation of IRA

On February 8, 2024, EPA and DOE jointly announced a Notice of Intent (NOI) to release funds for projects that measure and cut methane emissions from the oil and gas sectors. Part of EPA’s Methane Emissions Reduction Program (MERP), created by IRA section 60113, this funding will help oil and natural gas sector operators reduce methane emissions and assist in the transition to innovative methane emissions reductions technologies. MERP will provide technical and financial assistance to reduce inefficiencies throughout U.S. oil and gas operations. Part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda, this funding also advances the Justice 40 Initiative through its creation of new clean energy jobs in disadvantaged communities while improving public health.
