EPA Launches $932 Million Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program

Date: 04/24/2024
Deadline: 07/25/2024
Type: Implementation of IRA

On April 24, 2024, EPA announced nearly $1 billion in grant funding for projects that reduce climate and air pollution from heavy-duty vehicles while supporting good-paying jobs. This Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program incentivizes the replacement of existing polluting Class 6 and 7 heavy-duty vehicles with zero emissions vehicles. At least $400 million of funding will be used to fund projects serving communities located in areas in nonattainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

There are two different sub-program competitions under this NOFO: the School Bus Sub-program for applicants seeking to replace school buses (which will receive approximately 70% of funding), and the Vocational Vehicles Sub-Program for applicants replacing non-school bus Class 6 and 7 vehicles such as box trucks, dump trucks, street sweepers, delivery trucks, refuse haulers, and more (which will receive approximately 30% of funding). Applications opened April 24, 2024 and will close July 25, 2024.
