GAO Releases Report on Oversight of DOE and EPA Spending

On February 26, 2025, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report on the agency’s oversight of DOE and EPA’s spending under the IRA and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. GAO finds that “these agencies face challenges effectively managing such programs and projects.” The report builds on previous oversight work completed by the agency and includes recommendations for DOE and EPA to address the challenges identified by GAO, including ways to improve grant monitoring and increase agency staffing.

IRA section 70004 appropriated $25 million to GAO to overseeing the distribution and use of funds appropriated under the IRA.
