GSA Announces $23.8 million for Improvements at Federal Buildings to Benefit Communities

Date: 04/10/2024
Type: Implementation of IRA

On April 10, 2024, GSA announced $23.8 million for GSA’s Good Neighbor Program, an initiative designed to meet federal agency office space requirements in a way that also accomplishes local community development goals. The funding will go to 13 projects at federal buildings across 10 states. The project sites were chosen based on the opportunity to improve surrounding disadvantaged neighborhoods as identified by the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool. The projects will promote improvements identified in collaboration with local communities and help these federal buildings meet high performance green building and low-embodied carbon standards. The projects are designed to benefit local communities by, for example, mitigating heat islands through planting trees and utilizing reflective pavements, addressing sensitive watersheds, and providing equitable access to greenspace.
