On January 23, 2024, NOAA announced $85 million in IRA section 40005 funds for the new Industry Proving Grounds (IPG) program to promote the development and use of actionable climate information. The initiative will be led by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). NCEI will engage with industry partners in finance and reinsurance, retail and architecture, and engineering to inform sector-relevant data tools and user-friendly delivery of climate data.
NCEI will deliver user-friendly climate data by modernizing NOAA’s data and information network, including by leveraging artificial intelligence and cloud-based services. NOAA intends to co-create tailored web interfaces with different industry sectors and document use cases showing the importance of NOAA information to the industries that it services.
