On October 25, 2023, NOAA announced $20 million in IRA funds to address climate change impacts on reef fish in the Gulf of Mexico. The funds will be put towards improving data collection and management decisions for red snapper and other species. NOAA Fisheries awarded the Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission $1.5 million to modernize state data management systems.
