On August 13, 2024, the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) announced over $9 million to support partnerships aimed at improving fishing gear and population monitoring that will help the recovery of North Atlantic right whales. This funding is made available through IRA section 40005, which funds research in ocean sciences and developing forecast models. This investment will prevent fishing gear entanglements and improve the monitoring and modeling efforts of North Atlantic right whales.
