On October 3, 2024, USDA announced that it had awarded $104 million in loans and grants through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to more than 300 projects across 34 states which will be used to lower energy costs and create jobs in rural communities. For example, an awardee in Alaska will use the grant to “install air-source heat pumps at the Kodiak Brown Bear Center near Karluk, which will replace imported diesel fuel with electrical heating powered by renewable energy.”
REAP is funded through IRA section 22002 and supports projects to expand renewable energy and improve energy efficiency in rural communities.
