USDA Announces $150M to Connect Underserved and Small Acreage Forest Landowners to Emerging Climate Markets

On August 22, 2023, USDA announced the availability of $150 million in IRA funds to help underserved and small acreage forest landowners connect to emerging voluntary climate markets. The first Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO #1) solicits proposals to access IRA section 23002 funding to support the participation of underserved forest landowners and forest landowners who own less than 2,500 acres in emerging private markets for climate mitigation or forest resilience. Track A (proposal budgets greater than or equal to $2 million and less than $25 million) are due by October 21, 2023, and Track B (proposal budgets less than $2 million) will be considered for funding on a quarterly basis through August 21, 2024.
