On October 25, 2024, USDA announced a total of nearly $3 billion in funding for seven rural electric cooperatives across nine states through the Empowering Rural America (New ERA) Program. The New ERA Program supports access to clean, reliable energy in rural communities. $2.5 billion in financing, which is a mix of grants and loans through the program, will go to Tri-State Generation and Transmission. Six additional rural electric cooperatives are moving forward in the New ERA process to receive a total of $1 billion in grants and loans.
New ERA is funded by IRA section 22004 to reduce emissions from rural electric cooperatives.
