On December 19, 2024, USDA announced a total of $4.37 billion in funding for ten rural electric cooperatives across seven states through the Empowering Rural America (New ERA) Program. The New ERA Program supports access to clean, reliable energy in rural communities. Funding for the ten cooperatives is expected to “support at least 5,000 jobs and reduce climate pollution by over 11 million tons each year.”
New ERA is funded by IRA section 22004 to reduce emissions from rural electric cooperatives.
