On May 19, 2023, USDA announced the availability of $500 million in funding for the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), to promote partner-driven solutions for agricultural land conservation. RCPP encourages a voluntary approach to conservation, expanding the reach of conservation and climate-smart agriculture through public-private partnerships. The program received increased funding under section 21001 of the IRA. $50 million of the available funding will prioritize projects with Indian Tribes.
The modified RCPP design has incorporated input received from partner listening sessions and surveys. Key focus areas for program improvement are:
1. Simplifying and Reducing the Number of Agreements
2. Reducing Lengthy RCPP Easement Transactions
3. Improving the RCPP Portal
4. Consistent Guidance and Training for Employees and Partners
5. Simplifying the Technical Assistance Structure
6. Improving the Conservation Desktop
7. Simplifying the Partner Reimbursement Process
Applications are now open for RCPP Classic Projects and Alternative Funding Arrangements (AFA) through August 18, 2023. Applications should be submitted through the RCPP Portal. RCPP Classic Projects implement NRCS contracts and easements with producers, landowners and communities, in collaboration with project partners. RCPP AFAs require lead partners to work with agricultural producers to support the development of new conservation approaches.
