On September 26, 2024, DOI announced that it had awarded $71 million in funding made available through the Tribal Electrification Program to 13 Tribal communities across the country. The awards will help to close a gap in access to electricity in Indian Country using clean energy sources. This second round of funding, which was first announced in May, will be the final round of awards through the Tribal Electrification Program.
The Tribal Electrification Program was funded by IRA section 80003, which appropriated $145.5 million to the director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs to advance the use of zero-emissions energy systems in Tribal homes, as well as an additional $4.5 million for administrative costs associated with the program.
