On September 18, 2025, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) published a notice of intent in the Federal Register, announcing that it will proceed with preparing the supplemental environmental impact statement for Lease Sale 258 under DOI’s revised National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations. Lease Sale 258 is an oil and gas lease sale on the outer continental shelf in the Alaska region, as required by IRA section 50264. Under the revised NEPA regulations, “a notice of availability (NOA) for the draft supplemental EIS will not be issued for public comment, nor will public hearings be held.”
