On May 11, 2023, HUD announced the availability of more than $837 million in new funding, through its Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP), to support the reduction of GHG emissions, to improve energy and water efficiency, and to promote climate resilience in low-income resident communities assisted by HUD multifamily properties. Section 30002 of the IRA provides funding for this program.
Grants and loans under the GRRP will offer multifamily housing building owners the opportunity to invest in GHG and pollution reducing technologies and weatherization upgrades, such as solar panels, heat pumps, wind-resistant roofing, insulation, and low embodied carbon materials.
The funding is intended to bring cost savings and health benefits from clean energy projects to families in HUD-assisted multifamily housing. For further information, refer to the GRRP’s implementing notice.
