HUD Announces Over $2 Million for Housing Upgrades in Ohio and Illinois Through the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program

Date: 12/16/2024
Type: Implementation of IRA

On December 16, 2024, HUD announced that it had awarded over $2 million through the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP) for three projects in two states. First, HUD awarded $750,000 to the Alpha Towers in Toledo, Ohio. Second, it awarded $750,000 to Island Terrace 9% in Chicago, Illinois. Third, it awarded $552,313 to Riverwood Apartments in Kankakee, Illinois. The funding will be used for energy efficiency and climate resilience upgrades. Collectively, the properties contain almost 400 rental homes for low-income families and individuals. Upgrades to the properties can include insulation, energy efficient windows and doors, efficient heating and cooling, or a number of other resiliency measures.

GRRP is a direct loan and grant program, which was created and funded by IRA section 30002 to support projects that would improve the energy efficiency and climate resilience of the recipient-properties.
