On November 14, 2024, NOAA announced it will award up to $1 million to seven recommended multi-year projects through the Alaska Fisheries Science Center Indigenous Engagement Program. The projects will “support climate resilience and food security in remote Alaska communities, engage Indigenous Knowledge-holder voices in NOAA Fisheries’ science and management and strengthen collaborations with tribal governments and Indigenous communities.” Approximately $500,000 will be distributed in the first year of funding.
This funding opportunity was initially announced in February 2024. The money comes from IRA section 40001, which appropriated $2.6 billion to NOAA to support climate resilience projects in coastal communities.
