IRA Section 50241 – Climate Change Technical Assistance for U.S. Insular Areas and Territories

Section 50241 of the IRA appropriates to the DOI, through the Office of Insular Affairs, $15 million to provide technical assistance for climate change planning, mitigation, adaptation, and resilience in U.S. Insular Areas (i.e., jurisdictions that are neither part of a state nor a federal district). Section 50241 appropriates an additional $900,000 for associated administrative expenses. The appropriated funds will remain available through September 30, 2026.

According to DOI press releases, all appropriated funds have been committed. The funds will support projects in a number of insular areas, including American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
